Blagy Members Make Their Voices Heard
Friday the 23rd of October sees a whole host of key players in Further Education (colleges) descend on York for the unique "Learner Voices on Homophobia" event to hear our stories of being LGBT and how that impacts on our college experiences as well as asking for our ideas on how to make things better.
Some members of Blagy have been invited along with other LGBT youth from across the region and we will be taking part in discussion panels and roundtable talks.
If you would like to attend then lunch is provided and travel can be paid for and promises to be a exciting and valuable experience. For more details email rmishka@shm-ltd.co.uk or call 0207 242 5504.
National Coming Out Day
Today is National Coming Out Day in the UK.
I am gay.
That doesn’t really count as coming out though, if I am anything it’s openly gay. In fact a friend once joked that I manage to include a reference to my sexuality in every blog post or e-mail I write, and that every Twitter post of mine ends in “still gay”.
Maybe he’s right, but if it is, it’s probably subconsciously deliberate.
I confidently predict that there will be no surprise coming out statements this year from anybody in the public eye. Not even from those who don’t exactly do a good job of hiding it, yet deny it every time they are asked. You know who they are.
I think that’s quite sad.
I strongly believe that is the duty of those in the public eye to be open about their sexuality.
Celebrate & Advocate Bradford
This is an exciting new project which aims to bring people together to celebrate the strengths and diversities of the LGBT community in Bradford.
It is a creative project which will be delivered in the centre of Bradford on a weekly basis by artists, a film/animation maker and a graphic designer as well as workers from the Equity Centre and Yorkshire MESMAC who have developed the project in collaboration with Artworks.

The sessions will involve art, photography, writing, creativity, fun, personal development and hopefully some tea and cake!
The exciting part (as well as getting to meet lots of interesting people, learning new transferrable skills and working out what you want from life or work and how to get it) is that we will be working on a series of artworks which will be exhibited in a city centre gallery alongside Pride in May 2010.
Blagy @ Leeds Pride
The weekend we have all be waiting for is finally upon us! Starting at 12, Millennium Sq will play host to 3 hours of top entertainment including Frankmusik, Preston and Jade from Eurovision before the cities LGBT parade moves the fun to Lower Brigate for a carnival atmosphere and clubbing!
Pride is free and open for anyone who wishes to attend regardless of age (but don't expect to be able to drink if you are underage).
As usual Blagy and Mesmac will be there in force in the parade with a huge flag and banners we made at our recent camp.
Contact us for more details of where we are meeting and when.
